Tombstone for John William Glidden Sr.
John William Glidden was born 11 Oct 1825 in Hallowell, ME and died 7 Aug 1889 in Trinity Co., TX.  He is buried in the Groveton Cemetery, Groveton, TX.
John W. Glidden was married to Mary E. Blanchard 21 May 1853 in Kennebec Co., ME.

The lady in the front right is believed to be that of Mary E. Blanchard Glidden. At this time she was known as "Grandma Angel" because in 1901 she married Dr. E. P. Angel in Polk Co., TX.
The other ladies (l to r) are thought to be Nettie Jane Wilson, Bell Glidden Nixon and Nannie Haynes.  The lady in the front left is Mandy Allen Glidden. Nettie Jane Wilson was the daughter of Mandy Allen by her first marriage.

Mary Blanchard was born June 1834 and died 23 Feb 1926 and is buried in the White Rose Cemetery in Willspoint, TX.  There is no marker for her at this time.

Descendants of Gideon Glidden

John William Glidden and Mary E. Blanchard had 4 sons and 2 daughters. Their oldest daughter was Mary Ella Glidden. Nothing is know about the other daughter other than the fact that her name was Anna M. b. ca 1863.  Their sons were: John William Jr., George L., and twins, Edward Chester, and Edmond Lester.

 These two photos are of John William Glidden and his first wife, Laura Cole.  They were married in Clinton Co., IA 26 Mar 1875
The second photo show them with their son, George W., b. 25 Aug 1876 in Lyons, IA.
